Ryan Phillippe accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt

Ryan Phillippe has been slapped with a lawsuit by a former girlfriend who's accusing him of beating her up last July 4.

Elsie Hewitt claims the Shooter star was "extremely drunk" and assaulted her when she went to pick up some things from his home, The Blast reported Monday.

As the Daily Mail reports, the website says the model, 21, is seeking more than $1 million in damages from the 43-year-old actor for the assault that left her with chest pain, bruising and abrasions.

However, sources close to Phillippe told the publication that it was Hewitt who instigated the incident, showing up to the actor's home "under the influence" and physically attacking the Shooter star.

In the legal filing, Hewitt, who has posed for Playboy, alleges Phillippe uses a variety of drugs including cocaine, ecstasy, psychedelic mushrooms and steroids.

She claims that during her visit to his house on Independence Day, he attacked her and violently threw her down some stairs.

She alleges the actor continued to assault her, The Blast reports, and threw her down stairs for a second time.

He then allegedly screamed at her: "Get the f*** out of my house you crazy c***."

She went to a hospital and reported the assault to police who took a report and issued a temporary protective order.

However, sources close to Phillippe insist that the model was the one who physically attacked Phillippe, caused a scene and refused to leave his home after he dumped her.

The insider told DailyMail.com the injuries occurred when she fell and hurt herself as she was being escorted off the premises, and said the accusations of domestic violence are false and the lawsuit is all about revenge and fame.

In addition, Phillippe isn't facing any charges relating to the incident nor is there a protection order currently in place, the insider claimed.

Phillippe and Hewitt are believed to have started dating around April.

Phillippe was previously engaged to law student Paulina Slagter but they split up in November 2016 after five years together.

The Cruel Intentions star was married to Reese Witherspoon from 1999 to 2007. They share two children, daughter Ava and son Deacon.

He also has a daughter Kailani with former girlfriend Alexis Knapp.
