A reunited and near-original Roxy Music line-up is to play a show in Auckland in the New Year.
The English band who started out as art-rock rebels in the early 70s before smoothing out their edges to achieve disco-era chart success are coming to New Zealand for one show only at A Day on the Green, Villa Maria Estate Winery, on Sunday, March 6.
The line-up includes singer Bryan Ferry, guitarist Phil Manzanera, saxophonist Andy Mackay and drummer Paul Thompson.
The band last played here when they headlined the Sweetwaters Festival in 1981.
Manzanera has other New Zealand connections - he produced Split Enz' sophomore album Second Thoughts in 1976, having seen them open for Roxy Music on an Australian tour. He also had various Enz members on his solo albums and helped tutor a young Neil Finn on electric guitar.
Roxy Music initially split in 1976, reformed in 1978 for a period of commercial success, then drifted apart in the early 80s. They reformed again for a 30th anniversary tour in 2001 and are doing it again for a 40th celebration.
*Tickets go on sale on Monday, November 29 at Ticketmaster
