KEY POINTS:
A ban slapped on the Rolling Stones by a council in northern England 44 years ago has finally been lifted.
Blackpool Council barred the world's most famous rockers from playing at the popular coastal resort town in 1964 after a riot broke out at one of their shows. But councillors have now agreed to overturn the ban and hope to see the Stones play in the town one day.
"They are icons and I for one would certainly welcome them back," council leader Peter Callow told the Gazette newspaper in Blackpool.
