"Are you positive?"
Yes it is true, I'm here as part of a developing team developing ideas for television. As the saying goes "If it gets made here, it'll show everywhere".
I tried pitching a show here a couple of years ago and the concept sailed over their heads. I put it down to being "too ahead of my time".
Bearing that in mind, this year I wrote a television idea entitled Too Ahead of My Time about a man who lives in the future but only by 15 minutes.
Using his future insight he tries to tell people about things that are going to happen but because he can only project 15 minutes ahead, most people just say "Yeah, I'm pretty sure you could see that coming".
If you thought that idea was masterful, then buckle yourself in for this next one: Mild-mannered divorcee Kirk Davies runs a less-than-successful property maintenance company in Hollywood. Being a recent immigrant from Aotearoa, Kirk decides to call his business The Moa Man, a clever word-play based on the giant flightless (extinct) bird.
Unfortunately this ploy goes over the head of most of the Americans living in the area. Struggling to make ends meet, Kirk becomes desperate for cash. Then one day he witnesses a break-in at one of his client's houses.
He leaps into action, disguising his identity with ear muffs and a weed-spray mask. Using his powers of fear and desperation he manages to capture the crook by knocking him out with a shovel and tying him to a tree with No 8 wire. The house owner returns and pays Kirk handsomely for his deed. He decides to reinvent himself as The Moa Man but now he's in total control of petty neighbourhood crime.
I decided not to pitch either of these ideas to the US networks. Mainly because I think they might be too ahead of their time. These ideas are strictly for you. Let me know if you have any contacts and we can talk.
