Nintendo's Pokémon games sure have come a long way from the days of Red and Blue.
It's been 20 years since the original Japanese release of those games, and with this year's editions of Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, the 3DS game has evolved the franchise to a whole new level.
Sun and Moon takes place in the Alola region, which is filled with a bunch of new adorable creatures. There are also sassy, cute and at times down right hilarious reimaginings of already existing Pokémon.
There are more than a few new features that set Sun and Moon apart. Instead of battling for glory at Pokémon Gyms your customizable character takes on a series of Island Challenges; rather than Team Rocket, you'll be taking on the wannabe gangstas Team Skull; and when battling against wild Pokemon don't expect to just take on one at a time, Alola Pokémon stick together and will call for help when they're in trouble.
All of these tweaked aspects to the game help make Sun and Moon feel fresh, challenging and fun. However, in its essence Sun and Moon is still very much Pokémon and still follows similar formulas to its predecessors - but for all the reasons that budding Pokémon Trainers love the game - the tradition of picking you starter monster, capturing new ones, training hard and getting on endeavor on an epic Pokémon adventure.
