"I've got roughly 750 tracks now, right from before Don't Worry 'Bout It. I've got a pool of songs - not just a beat, a song; verse, chorus, everything - that keeps growing. It was about trying to stay creative."
He says he sometimes dips into that pool, but for Two, which releases next month, he says he started completely fresh. He almost had to, as he saw his audience grow and his stages get bigger.
"The biggest show I played was in front of 20,000 people and I got to see that from the perspective of an artist for the first time. And I was like, 'what makes these people move?'. I'd play tracks from the old album and see that these tracks weren't working as well."
Kings describes Chapter One as him wanting to share his story, whereas with Two he says he wanted people to have fun.
"There were some tough songs on Chapter One that I cut out. There was a song on there about my dad, we had a rough beginning but now we're great friends. He helped me start my business and everything. So I spoke about that and it was making me cry so I thought it's probably not the best song to release on the first album.
"But this album I had so much fun making. There are full-on party tracks, which I hadn't done on the first album."
The first of his new party songs is called You Do. For the release, Kings partnered with the new job listings website YUDU to make the single available as a free download.
"My skill set, my background, was as a producer first. I produced for ads for years. Then I became an artist," he says. "Getting these campaigns is what I used to do. I understood the game. So when I had a single that sounded like something they'd be after, I thought this is a great opportunity for both of us. For them, to have me lead their campaign and for me, to help me reach people that may not listen to me. So it's really cool.
"It might even bring traffic back to the old albums and they'll be like 'Oh, wow, I like this guy', or they might be, 'I hate him even more now'. And that's cool too. That's fine."
"As long as they do them."
Fans will be able to see Kings perform next Friday as part of the P20 Fed Street Festival line-up. Starting from 4pm at Federal St, he'll be joined by the likes of SWIDT, Chores, JessB, Sachi and Jetski Safari.
You Do, his new single is out now and available as a free download for a limited time from job listings site YUDU.
