KEY POINTS:
Auckland is set to get a double dose of Red Hot Chili Peppers after the band announced a second show this morning.
Pre-sale tickets to both the Red Hot Chili Pepper's Auckland shows have already sold out.
The advance tickets began selling at 9am this morning and demand for the initial concert was so great that a second concert, scheduled for Sunday April 22, was announced just one hour later.
Publicist Bridget de Launay said there were still tickets left to both shows, which will be available to the general public from 9am on Monday morning [March 5].
A limited number of pre-sale tickets were available today via the Visa Entertainment website.
Ms de Launay said the promoters were pleased with the rapid ticket sales but not necessarily surprised.
"Tickets sold out in Australia very quickly and we expect New Zealand will follow suit."
Some users reported difficulty accessing the Visa website this morning.
The band, responsible for New Zealand's highest selling album of 2006 - Stadium Arcadium, will perform at the yet-to-be-opened Vector Arena, with a maximum capacity of 12,000.
Formed in 1983, the Chili Peppers have recorded nine studio albums and sold more than 60 million records worldwide.
Fronted by Anthony Kiedis, the band last performed in New Zealand in 2002, in front of a 20,000 strong crowd at Auckland's Western Springs Stadium.
