WORST: Gwyneth Paltrow in Alexander McQueen (2002)
That same year Gwyneth Paltrow wore Alexander McQueen though and, God rest his soul, I doubt he'd want the credit. It was Gothic-ish, which on it's own isn't too awful, but it needed a bra. Or at least big fake Hollywood boobies to fill out the weird bodice. Instead, it made her entire upper body look like an old woman or a deflated balloon. The horror has stayed with me.
LAURA McGOLDRICK
BEST: Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace (2003)
This 14kt Atelier Versace gown personifies Hollywood glamour. It's my favorite look of all time. She nailed it - from the hair, to the earrings and the bag. This is Oscars glam perfection.
WORST: Bjork in Marjan Pejoski (2001)
Wearing a swan is seldom going to get you on a best dressed list - even less so when it's the Academy Awards. Needless to say we have never seen a swan or any other animals on the carpet again.
*Bonus trivia: The much ridiculed dress is now celebrated as genuine art, on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
RICARDO SIMICH
BEST: Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab (2014)
It was a long search through the decades - Audrey Hepburn in a white, floral lace Givenchy dress in 1954, or Julia Roberts in 2001 in Vintage Valentino, but it is Angelina Jolie two years ago, in a nude Elie Saab Couture gown that continues to mesmerise. Known for dramatic looks in previous years, Jolie turned up as a mother, wife, director, actress and self-confident siren, illuminated by the delicate mirror crystal detailing and flawless hair and make-up. The Robert Procop diamond and gold earrings add to the magic. When the most beautiful woman in the world turned and showed a low cut back, that sealed the deal for this punter.
WORST: Kate Hudson in Stella McCartney (2001)
In 2001, Kate Hudson had the world at her feet - and every stylist in town. Despite one stylist offering her two stunning Badgley Mischka dresses - $20,000 a piece, crystal encrusted, fitted-tubular gowns in champagne and off-white - Hudson went with Stella McCartney. She may have been a winner on stage but her bizarre lilac ode to the Wild West was a major fashion fail.
