Elijah Wood, Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch and James Nesbitt were in town to film for Sir Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy.
Martin Freeman, who starred as Bilbo Baggins, also appears in the new film and turned out as thousands thronged the red carpet along Courtenay Place.
Sir Peter introduced the movie to a packed audience at the Embassy Theatre.
