KEY POINTS:
Vincent Ward will premiere his latest film Rain of the Children at the Civic Theatre this Saturday, complete with a powhiri for the 200 Tuhoe attending the screening.
The film, which had its world premiere at the Sydney Film Festival last month, is part-documentary, part-drama and follows on from Ward's 1978 film In Spring One Plants Alone.
The story centres around the tragic life of Puhi, an elderly woman living in the Ureweras, who lost 13 of her 14 children.
Rain of the Children is Ward's first film since the troubled 2005 feature River Queen and has already earned international acclaim.
The film will screen as part of the New Zealand International Film Festival, which opens today. For a full schedule and session times, see www.nzff.co.nz
