Owen Wilson did attempt suicide, police reports have confirmed.
Santa Monica police department logged a call made from Owen's home at 12:08pm on Sunday as "attempt suicide".
The 38-year-old actor - who was reportedly found by one of his brothers - allegedly overdosed on a cocktail of crystal meth and prescription medication Oxycodone dubbed 'hillbilly heroin' before slashing his wrists.
Owen who was said to be suffering from depression - visited the St. Monica church in his neighbourhood on August 23 before embarking on a three-day drugs binge.
A source said: "Though the news will have shocked Owen's fans, his close friends were all too aware of his private battles with depression and addiction to cocaine and heroin."
A representative for the Wedding Crashers star adamantly denies the actor has ever used heroin or cocaine.
Owen's suicide attempt has been linked to his recent split from You, Me and Dupree co-star Kate Hudson, who recently went public with her new relationship with comedian Dax Shepard.
But an insider told one US newspaper the actor slit his wrists after a blazing row with a close friend.
Hudson, 28, was told of Owen's suicide attempt while filming her latest movie in Boston, and was left devastated by the news.
An on-set source said: "She looked upset and was pacing back and forth while on the phone.
"Then her handlers came out and covered her with an umbrella, she was ushered into a white vehicle and then took off."
Owen released a statement, saying: "I ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time."
