The Pixies will play an extra show on their visit to New Zealand in March and it's a chance for fans to get up close and personal with the American indie rock legends.
They will play Auckland's Powerstation on March 11, the night before the band's sold-out Vector Arena show.
The Pixies Tour is in celebration of the 20th anniversary of classic album Doolittle and at Vector they will be playing the entire album. However, what form the intimate Powerstation show is likely to take is anyone's guess.
The notoriously volatile group, made up of singer/guitarist Black Francis, bass player Kim Deal, guitarist Joey Santiago, and drummer David Lovering, split up in 1993 only to reform in 2004 - and then in 2008 Francis stated that the reunion was over. But with Doolittle turning 20 they were inspired to hit the road again.
Tickets for the extra show go on sale February 4 at Ticketmaster.
Meanwhile, if the summer wasn't busy enough, there are still more shows to come.
Eccentric singer-songwriter and multi-instrmentalist Imogen Heap performs at Juice Bar at Parnell's Windsor Castle on March 19 in support of her latest album Ellipse from last year.
And speaking of eccentric, or perhaps slightly oddball, The Mountain Goats return to play in New Zealand in April. Fronted by John Darnielle, the band, also made up of Peter Hughes and Jon Wurster, play lively and twisted lo-fi folk with biting lyrics and clever yarns to match. They play the Kings Arms on April 8 and Wellington's San Francisco Bath House on April 9.
And in other news, Burt Bacharach is back in more ways than one. After postponing concert dates due to having to undergo emergency back surgery, the great songwriter will now perform at Vector Arena on November 5 and Christchurch's Westpac Arena November 7.
