Heirhead Paris Hilton and her off-again, on-again boyfriend Doug Reinhardt were Spy-ed at Auckland Airport on Sunday in transit after a flight from Fiji. The couple, who were trying to look incognito in baggy clothing and sunglasses and failing miserably, were jetting in after spending the week holidaying at Fiji's five star Wadigi Island Resort. Proprietor Tracey Johnston confirmed the Hollywood princess was a private guest but was unwilling to share details about her stay with Spy.
E!Online reported Reinhardt, a minor league baseball player-cum-actor, was trying hard to win back the heirhead's affection after the pair split two months ago. He reportedly hired the entire private island for the romantic getaway - with its staff of nine and activities such as scuba diving, water skiing and jet skiing - at a hefty cost of US$2256 (NZ $3312) per day.
Perhaps, then, it's no wonder the pair gushed about their lavish stay via Twitter. Presumably the promotional babbling offset the cost of the trip.
Reinhardt tweeted: "Wadigi Island in Fiji the perfect romantic getaway so private and beautiful. If your are [sic] ever in Fiji u need to stay at Wadigi island. The staff was amazing."
Hilton added: "Love Wadigi Island, had the most incredible stay. It is true Paradise, so beautiful and private. It's the perfect place to vacation." Watch it replace formerly cool Denarau as Fiji's holiday spot for Rich List Kiwis.
The Hosk pulls a Tom Cruise and gains cool cred
Let's face it, Tom Cruise has never been cool and he lost major It-boy points when he yo-yoed up and down and killed Oprah's couch, but then along came Tropic Thunder and the man who takes himself too seriously, didn't, and gained some much-needed cool cred. Can Pulp Sport do the same for Mike Hosking?
The father of two, and "uncle" to Kate's three, was in much need of a makeover before Hawko came on the scene. In those days, he declared his love for cups of tea in front of the telly watching Coro. Hawko put an end to that. In came the matching his-and-hers hair shags and the fussy printed metrosexual clothing. Now we learn via Twitter the broadcaster loves pilates, cycling and taking his kids to school. It's Ken Barlow who?
This week, the NewstalkZB star shot a segment for Pulp Sport. Television funny men Jamie Linehan and Ben Boyce told Spy they filmed a cameo with the Hosk for the new series. Without revealing too much, they said: "Mike was awesome and we are chuffed he agreed to take part on our little show. It should be funny." Hosking was just as enthusiastic. He tweeted: "off to film Pulp Sport perfect day for it...its on location!" He added: "Pulp Sport shoot the best fun bill and ben are awesome script was very clever."
Oliver's outburst
What did Oliver Driver wash down his cornflakes with on Wednesday morning? An insider on the Sunrise set told Spy the TV star ranted at panellist Wendyl Nissen just before they were due to go on air. Word is, he didn't like implications revealed in her Herald on Sunday review last week about his behaviour on the nationally televised telethon and he voiced his complaint. Fair enough.
Spy's spy gushed: "Everyone watched absolutely stunned. They were seconds away from doing the piece. Wendyl told Oliver he was over-reacting, and then the cameras rolled and everyone had to pretend they were great mates." Driver wasn't quite so dramatic. He told Spy: "It was all a storm in a teacup, really." Nissen filmed her last segment for Sunrise on Wednesday morning.
Not so lonely Tony
Tony Veitch was Spy-ed chatting to a mystery blonde AND a brunette at Bonita bar on Friday night and keeping busy bodies guessing as to who his next paramour could be since splitting from his very loyal wife Zoe. Also keeping the punters guessing about his love life was eligible bachelor Simon Dallow, who was at the same bar with some familiar TVNZ faces.
