The Block NZ favourites Corban and Alex Walls are eyeing up their next potential project - an unoccupied state house that was the site of a P-lab explosion in March.
The Pt Chevalier property is one street away from the million-dollar-plus Block homes the Walls' and three other couples built and furnished for reality television. The four homes will be auctioned live on TV this Friday. The couple whose home sells for the highest amount above reserve will win $80,000, plus the amount paid above the reserve.
The couple didn't want to talk to the Herald on Sunday, but real estate agent Bruce Murtagh confirmed they had expressed interest in the state house.
The one-bedroom, 1940s brick-and-tile duplex at 21 Buxton St is on 476sq m of freehold land, but has been stripped to its shell as part of a decontamination process. The property, which has a capital value of $520,000 and a land value of $430,000, has been certified as safe to occupy by occupational health analysts and consultants Dowdell Associates.
A Trade Me ad for the property, which will be auctioned on Wednesday, urges potential buyers to "forget the Block houses just down the road. This is a real blank canvas do-up".
