The two other finalists in the best drama category are TV1's Ride with the Devil and TV2's Shortland Street which, true to form, also snagged multiple nominations.
Last year's winner for best comedy TV3's Pulp Sport has been nominated again, alongside bro'Town, another TV3 production, and TV2's Eating Media Lunch.
C4's Jono's New Show and TV2's Dare to Win join last year's category winner Dancing with the Stars (TV1) as finalists in the best entertainment programme.
The winners of the Qantas Film and Television Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony in Auckland on September 13.
The awards are the amalgamation of the two former award programmes that have been running for the last three years: the New Zealand Screen Awards and the New Zealand Television Awards.
