The actor recently made an appearance at the Monte-Carlo television festival, the Golden Nymph Awards, and posted some pictures of himself on the red carpet which pushed some fans over the edge.
"Get off that red carpet and go back to Litchfield you f****** twat," ygbrenda commented.
"How could u be out here on the red carpet when Daya is over there at Litchfield not even knowing her family that took her baby in was arrested so who knows what's gonna happen to the baby, s***," lexieackles- posted.
There are hundreds of these posts on McGorry's Instagram photos, which pushed the actor to respond with his own Father's Day post, alongside a photo with his co-stars Dascha Polanco and Elizabeth Rodriguez.
"Happy Fathers Day to all the real fathers out there! I am an actor and I play the fictional character John Bennett on the fictional television show entitled Orange Is The New Black," he wrote.
He then explains that actresses Dascha Polanco and Elizabeth Rodriguez play mother and daughter "on the made up television program with me".
"They are not mother and daughter in real life even though they and we play pretend characters that are sometimes even the opposite of who we are as real live people while not reflecting our real lives because it is not real. Moments before this photograph was taken I was even saying words that were written by another person, all the while pretending that my name was John Bennett and that his thoughts and actions were a result of my own brain!" he writes.
"Weirdly, the words coming out of my mouth and the things I did in the story were not created by me at all! To make matters even more confusing, I am even dressed in fictional character John Bennett's costume (a costume is like fictional clothes) in this photograph that was taken on the television set and afterwards I went home to my apartment in New York City where I don't have a child because I'm not a father and have never worked in a prison and TV is not real life. #oitnb," he finished.
If that doesn't clear things up, it's hard to know what will but the whole thing shows just how fanatical people feel about the hit show.
Here's hoping there's a Daya/Bennett reunion in season four or things could get really ugly for McGorry.
