One Direction were on stage in 2013 when the Pillowtalk singer ran to push his then-bandmate out of the way because he was oblivious to the fact that, while wiping his face with a towel, he’d wandered right in front of where there was about to be some dramatic fire.
Appearing on Hot Ones, Malik told host Sean Evans: “It’s actually amazing, ‘cause [the footage] makes me look great.
“On stage, Harry was right next to a pyro, and the pyro was about to go off, because they were on timers. He had a towel over his head, and he had his head over the pyro and he didn’t see that the pyro was there.
“You see me run from one side of the stage and push him out of the way.
“And the pyro explodes in front of his face — that was really dangerous.”
The 31-year-old singer also revealed the group used to handle equipment malfunctions by downing their microphones and offering fans a seemingly-impromptu rendition of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme tune.
He recalled: “The whole rig would go off sometimes, like in our early gigs we would have a power outage and there was no microphones. So we would just put our microphones down and we would just burst into Fresh Prince Of Bel Air a cappella, and just do the whole performance of that until the microphones were working again.
“And that was the thing that we had just in our back pocket, ‘If the microphone goes, you know, we still have that,’ as if it was some amazing performance. But I hope it entertained people. Yeah, funny times.”
Malik sparked jealousy from his bandmates when One Direction: This Is Usdirector Morgan Spurlock gave him an “amazing” gift at the end of filming - an Iron Man comic signed by Stan Lee.
He said: “[Morgan] became pretty close to us so at the end of the filming process, he bought us all a present and he brought me the signed Iron Man comic, which is a real, you know, amazing thing I still have on my wall.
“An amazing thing to tell all your geeky nerdy friends who love comic books, they definitely want that comic book from me but they won’t have it at any point while I’m alive.
“I remember the other boys being super [annoyed] about it as well because they didn’t get as good gifts, I was like, ‘This is sick.’”
