"So @grimmers just said on his last breakfast show that one direction getting back together was 'never going to happen'. Thank you for literally ruining my life," one fan raged, with someone replying: "What the hell is wrong with him? Why suddenly is he speaking like he is the 1D's pr chief?"
Someone else typed: "Grimmy just said he didn't think 1D would get back together again. Thanks for putting that out there pal."
Another tweeted "Nick said no chance 1D will ever get back together" echoed by someone else who typed "Fiona and Nick saying it how it is about 'not a chance' 1D will get back together... WAHHHHHHH [sic]".
Someone else wrote: "Grimmy just said there's not a chance they're getting back together, he better be joking."
Another - noting that Grimshaw is particularly close to the One Direction members - added: "I can't tell if he was saying it jokingly tho cause lets be real who knows most about 1D? [sic]"
One Direction announced their split in the summer of 2015 to go on an "indefinite hiatus". This followed on from the departure of original member Zayn Malik earlier that year.
But earlier this summer, Liam Payne shared his hopes for the group getting back together for "another great time" in an interview with Daily Star.
The singer admitted, however, that their potential reunion won't happen for at least two years as he is preoccupied with his successful solo career.
Speaking on the prospective plans, the For You singer said: "It's amazing that we're doing our own thing and then, hopefully one day soon, we get back together and have another great time of it, who knows?"
The band were formed on The X Factor in 2010 with Liam and Zayn joined by Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson in the original line-up.
Meanwhile, Grimshaw has been marking his final week on Radio 1 Breakfast with a string of celebrity co-hosts - with many hoping pal Harry would be making an appearance.
This didn't happen - but Grimshaw did play back various clips from past interviews and favourite moments featuring the Sign Of The Times crooner.
Taking a walk down memory lane, he recalled the time he "set up" Harry with singer Ke$ha live on air and the moment Harry joined him the morning after the BRITS 2013, when the presented the show "still drunk".
During Wednesday's episode, for which Game Of Thrones actress Maisie Williams joined him as co-host, Grimshaw debated which member of 1D was his least favorite - with both him and Maisie labelling Liam as the culprit.
This didn't go down too well with fans of the boy band either.
"Did Grimmy say Liam was his least favourite 1d member?" one fan demanded to know on Twitter.
Another typed: "Grimmy saying Liam is his least favorite 1d member RIP!"
Someone else wrote: "Liam's grimmy's least favourite member of 1D yikes. Grimmy's going full savage this week!"
Grimshaw continues his role at Radio 1, taking over the drivetime slot from 4PM-7PM from Greg James, in a straight swap, from September 3.
