One Direction fans have lost it over Liam Payne's new song which has a line bagging the band in it

Anyone who knows a One Direction fan would no doubt also know it's never wise to say anything bad about the famous boy band.

Despite being on hiatus since January, 2016, their fans, affectionately known as 'Directioners', collectively lose it every single time one of the members does anything noteworthy.

And, while there's plenty of devoted fan bases around the world, none come close to Directioners who have done everything from control global music charts to send thousands of death threats to celebrities or ex-girlfriends who have bad mouthed any of the boys.

And, that's exactly how Liam Payne has placed his legion of fans in a bit of a predicament.

Payne became the fifth and final member of One Direction to release solo music when he dropped his debut track Strip That Down yesterday, which features a line that has divided fans.

The specific line being, "You know I used to be in 1D, now I'm out free. People want me for one thing, that's not me," and bluntly put, his fans are not coping.

And, Payne also seemed to have a little dig at his fellow former boy band member Harry Styles in an interview with Music Choice.

When asked what he thought about his fellow 1D members solo careers, Payne admitted Styles' new song Sign of the Times isn't something he'd "listen to".

"I'll be honest with you, it's not my sort of music. It's not something I'd listen to, but I think he did a great job of doing what he wanted to do. That's the way I'd put it best, I think," Payne said.

"I think the funny thing is, [Harry] would say the same thing about me because he doesn't really listen to hip-hop music, whereas it's like my song's more [Tyga's] Rack City and his song is more of a different era to something I'd listen to, I guess."
