KEY POINTS:
New Zealand short film Taua has won a top award at the National Geographic All Roads Film Festival in the United States.
The film, written and directed by Tearepa Kahi about a boy who shows compassion amid rival Maori tribes at war, won the Best Short Film award.
It was part of a festival established to provide an international platform for indigenous and under-represented minority culture artists.
Taua also won the Honourable Mention award at a similar event -- the ImagineNATIVE Film and Media Arts Festival in Canada.
