Nintendo Switch video doesn't represent 'actual game footage'

The games shown in Nintendo's Switch reveal trailer may not represent the actual slate of games planned for the console, according to Nintendo.

In a statement to Eurogamer, the platform-holder said it merely "wanted to convey in a self-contained video how Nintendo Switch represents a new era for video game systems."

Potential players "shouldn't assume what [they] saw on the video represents actual game footage and further specifics on first-party games will be provided later," the company said.

Additionally, developers Bethesda and 2K Games stated that Skyrim and NBA 2K, both seen in the Switch reveal trailer, would not necessarily release for the device.

In fact, the actors in the video merely held dummy units in production, with gameplay video added in post-production, according to streamer Dickhiskhan (who appeared in the video).

With the trailer functioning as a proof-of-concept tease, and without a full announcement from Nintendo, many questions still circle the Switch, its capabilities, and its game lineup.

But Wall Street Journal reporter Takashi Mochizuki claims that Nintendo does not intend to reveal the hardware's specs or launch titles until 2017.

"At a later date, before the March launch, we'll be talking about things like exact launch date, and of course, the games," said the company in its statement to Eurogamer.

The Nintendo Switch is currently set for a March 2017 launch.
