Netflix has confirmed that season five of creepy political thriller House of Cards will drop May 30, which happens to be perfect timing for Washington, DC, denizens looking to binge-watch, since both chambers of Congress will be out of session for Memorial Day recess.
Beltway types maybe aren't quite as obsessed with the show as they were during its first few seasons, but the series is still pop-culture shorthand for all that's super-swampy about Washington, with a dash of murder and corruption thrown in for flourish. (Its fans even include former President Barack Obama.)
In a trailer released Monday, it looks like the new season will be as dark and grimy as we'd expect, with the fictional President Underwood facing a tough election (dig that red-and-blue electoral map) and plotting political-dynasty domination for decades to come with his wife, Claire Underwood, as his veep.
As the fictional prez, played by Kevin Spacey, puts it, it's "one nation, Underwood."
