New Black Keys film will be a 'buddy movie'

A documentary maker following the Black Keys on tour says the band's upcoming movie will focus on the relationship between band members Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney.

Noah Abrams told Spin.com the pair's relationship would be at the heart of the film, which he hopes to finish shooting in August and release next year.

"A lot of music documentaries spend too much time trying to make people look cool," Abrams said.

"I'm fortunate enough to know both these guys pretty well and their relationship is pretty incredible and very funny."

Abrams said the film would chart the band's success from badly attended early tours to one of the world's biggest rock acts - and would include "perhaps the greatest soundtrack of all time".

"They're guys that grew up around the corner from each other. They worked and worked and worked and toured and toured and slept in a van and worked their asses off and now they're selling out arenas," he said.

"For as big as these guys are now they're still two guys from Akron ... I think it's a testament to their talent and hard work.

"We've gotten some amazing footage so far."

The film's timings mean footage from the band's biggest New Zealand shows yet at Auckland's Vector Arena on November 3 and Wellington's TSB Bank Arena on November 5 won't be included.
