All 13 episodes of the show's first season will be available March 6. Kimmy was initially created for NBC, but Netflix picked up the series mid-filming with a two-season order. There doesn't seem to be bad blood about the switch; NBC Chairman Bob Greenblatt had said the two-season deal was too good for Fey and Carlock to pass up.
"When the opportunity arose for Tina Fey and Robert Carlock to premiere their new show on Netflix with a two-season commitment, we decided this was the best possible scenario to launch this captivating new series," he said.
Fey said she and Carlock will continue to collaborate with NBC, and for this show, "I actually think more people will find us on Netflix.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt also stars Fey's former 30 Rock co-star Jane Krakowski as the woman for whom Kimmy nannies for, and Tituss Burgess, who plays Kimmy's roomate.
What's in store after this season? "Season two is going to be mostly shower sex," Fey joked earlier this month.
