Verdict: Another conceptual disaster-piece.
Neil Young has made an album inspired by his car - his LincVolt, a 1959 Lincoln that he's turned into an electric hybrid.
It would be nice to report that the studio Young is as good as the live Young (of this year's Big Day Out) or the reissued Young (his Archives Vol. 1 out now).
But this another one of those latter-day Young albums - see also Greendale, Living With War - where the theme is an excuse for some terrible songs.
True, Johnny Magic does a spirited line in eco-garage rock while Young rants about the credit crunch on the awful Give Up the Bucks.
But most songs sounds like they needed a much more tinkering under the hood - or might have been best left in the spare parts box.
