Negotiations under way for Pokemon Go movie

Get ready to see these guys on the big screen as well as your phone screen.

With the way Pokemon Go is taking over the real world, it was only a matter of time before a new film reared its head.

Nintendo received a massive US$9 billion (US$12.4 billion) stock price increase after Pokemon Go launched in the United States, proving there's a tonne of money to be made from the renewed interest in this franchise.

Which is why it's little surprise reports are coming in that Legendary Pictures is working on a deal to secure the rights to make a live-action Pokemon film.

According to Deadline, no deal has been closed and details are thin on the ground, but all signs are pointing towards the film becoming a reality.

Previous rumours around a Pokemon film hinted that Max Landis (Chronicle, American Ultra) would write the script.

Legendary's latest film was also a video game adaptation, putting World of Warcraft on the big screen to not-so-favourable reviews, but plenty of fan hype.

And that's something Pokemon is certainly not short on - the launch of Pokemon Go has seen the app overtake Twitter in popularity and has taken the internet by storm.

Not bad for a 90s anime in 2016.
