KEY POINTS:
LOS ANGELES - The mystery of how Heath Ledger died will be solved publicly tomorrow.
The New York Chief Medical Examiner's Office was poised to release the results of its investigation into the death of the Australian actor today, but a spokesperson said its report would be released tomorrow.
The report will identify what caused 28-year-old Ledger's death.
"It will be released tomorrow," a spokesperson for the NY Chief Medical Examiner said today.
No reason was given for the delay.
There has been much speculation about what caused the death of the Perth-born movie star, who was nominated two years ago for a best actor Oscar for his performance as a gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain.
Police found six different types of prescription drugs in the Manhattan apartment where Ledger's body was discovered on January 22, including pills to treat anxiety and insomnia.
The discovery has prompted speculation Ledger died from a drug overdose.
Police said no illegal drugs were found in his apartment and there was no evidence he took his own life.
The NY Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy on Ledger's body on January 23, but the results were inconclusive, and it has been waiting for the results of toxicology tests to determine a cause of death.
The official estimated time Ledger died will not be made public.
There has also been speculation the actor may have been saved if medical help was called earlier.
Ledger is expected to be buried at a private funeral in Perth this week.
Ledger's father Kim, mother Sally Ledger Bell and sister Kate arrived back in Perth yesterday after attending two memorial services in Los Angeles.
