Friday night drinks? Meet me at Pastis, where the Alexes, Amondine and Tony M. keep the bonhomie flowing and Tracy Collins' accordion provides the perfect soundtrack.

Where I'll be wearing my new: Leopard-skin pillbox hat ... well once upon a dream.

And this weekend I'm planning on: Packing my bags for a trip to Dublin and the arrival of grandchild number three.

But first I'll need to refuel at my favourite cafe: Mozaik in Albany: great coffee and the delightful Janetta makes a fuss of my dear ol' mum.

Saturday evening. If my dreams came true there would be a gig by: Prince and the Revolution at a newly restored St James; Little Richard, James Brown and Jimi Hendrix rolled into one. Save the St James!

But if there's nothing else doing I'll probably just: Play my little parlour guitar or see where my laptop takes me while keeping an eye on the telly.

On my stereo/headphones right now is: My soul playlist; Aretha, Stevie, Billie Holiday, Corinne Bailey Rae, Barry White, Sola Rosa, Erykah Badu, Sly Stone, Marvin Gaye, Sam & Dave ...

The books I can't put down are: Gonzo: The Life of Hunter S. Thompson, put together by Jann Wenner and Corey Seymour, Writing Better Lyrics by Pat Pattison, The Naked and the Dead by Norman Mailer and All Visitors Ashore by C.K. Stead.

The TV show I take the phone off the hook for: Rapid Response!

The movies I've been dying to see: Boy and Home By Christmas.

A non-cooking Monday night means takeaways from: Monthien in Milford - lovely Thai.

Or a splash-out Wednesday night restaurant would be: Must check out Glen Giroux's new place in the Bays now he's left Toto.
