It’s NZ Music Month and the Herald has partnered with NZ On Screen to bring you a music video of a classic New Zealand song every day of the month. Today’s pick is the song that started it all for The Exponents.
Today's Music Month flashback is the Exponents' Victoria, from 1982, which has become a Kiwi classic - though singer/songwriter Jordan Luck once said it was "a strange song to pick as a first single, but the right one."
Reaching number six, the song would prove to be the biggest hit on a debut studio album packed with greats.
Victoria was reportedly inspired by Jordan Luck's one-time landlord, who was trapped in an abusive relationship.
Locations for the music video include the Christ-church Arts Centre and deco apartments opposite.
