Some of the movies which got Oscars also figure in the frivolity - 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle and Dallas Buyers Club have multiple nominations.
But this is the movie awards that really likes big franchise films such as The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. It also likes movie stars so much that it's figured out a way to give the Oscar-challenged Leonardo DiCaprio effectively four nominations for The Wolf of Wall Street (that's best male performance, best shirtless performance, #WTF Moment and best musical performance).
Other multiple nominees include Jennifer Lawrence for her roles in American Hustle and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, her Hustle co-star Amy Adams - they share a "best kiss" nod - and Australian star Chris Hemsworth, whose Thor sequel has him up for best hero and best shirtless performance.
