The talented minds behind Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and the 21 Jump Street movie strike gold again with this charming and witty big-screen outing for the venerable toy bricks.
In contrast to the stylised direct-to-DVD Lego movies, this animated film presents "photo real" Lego pieces that look like they have simply sprung to life. The visual style is highly appealing, especially to anyone who ever played with Lego.
Chris Pratt (the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy) voices Emmet, a construction worker in a typical Lego town who enjoys doing what he's told. Into his world comes Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks), who informs him of his role in a prophecy about the "piece of resistence".
If you liked that pun, you'll find plenty to enjoy in this delightful film that never betrays the brand-awareness thinking behind its existence. The voice cast are uniformly excellent. Easily one of the funniest films of the year.
