Work-life balance is just a story idea to Becky (Rachel McAdams) when she takes the reigns of a barely watched TV breakfast show that repeatedly chews and spits out producers, especially ones as green and peppy as Becky.
Desperate to stop the axe from falling, Becky forces Pulitzer-winning news legend Mike Pomeroy (Harrison Ford) to take the dumbed-down co-host gig or else lose his contract at the station (IBS - never a good acronym).
From Notting Hill director Roger Michell, this spin on the screwball comedy is a tepid take on the battle between entertainment and hard news and whether they can meet in the middle - same goes for Becky's work-life balance.
There are some funny moments, but even with boring clothes and brown hair, beautiful McAdams doesn't a plain Jane make. Meanwhile, Becky's new romance is a forced, one-dimensional tack-on and the ending is lame. Not even performances by Diane Keaton and Ford can elevate this to above-average.
