In Adam Sandler's latest film he plays an LA plastic surgeon who pretends to be married so he can sleep with women, no strings attached. His game backfires when he meets a woman he wants to get involved with, only to have her refuse to believe he isn't married. To prove his availability Sandler ropes in his assistant (Jennifer Aniston) to pretend to be his ex-wife.
Originally based on a French play, the tenuous premise is stretched beyond the limits of farce, with the easy charm of Aniston and the on-screen chemistry of the leads unable to paper over the cracks. The humour is broad but strangely mild, and the absence of any real zingers leaves it floundering in the shallow waters of mediocrity.
