Movie gets slammed for gigantic emoji fail

The Emoji Movie has come under fire for parodying the hit drama series The Handmaid's Tale.

The Emoji Movie's Twitter account shared an image on Friday that modified The Handmaid's Tale poster to feature an emoji, along with the text: "A Smartphone Original: The Emoji's Tale."

The tweet was captioned: "Blessed be the Emoji".

The tweet was deleted three days later after it sparked outrage among Twitter users, who believed parodying The Handmaid's Tale was insensitive.

"Don't think the team from @EmojiMovie have ever read @MargaretAtwood," wrote Luke Robert Mason.
