The We Can't Stop songstress also revealed that Thicke was very much aware of what he was in for, and that they both knew "they were about to make history".
Speaking to MTV News in an exclusive interview, Miley said: 'I don't pay attention to the negative because I have seen this play out. How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?
"You know now... you know what's happened. Madonna's done it, Britney's done it. Every VMA performance, anyone that performs ... that's what you are looking for.
"You want to make history. Me and Robin the whole time said, 'You know you are about to make history right now?"
Cyrus also added that she loved the fact that people were still talking about the raunchy show.
"It is an amazing thing that I think now it is three days later and people are still talking about it," she gushed.
And for all of those critics out there, Cyrus simply believes that they are just "over thinking it".
"They're over thinking it. You're thinking more about it than when I did it. Like I didn't even think about it because that is just me," she said.
The former Disney star has been a hot topic of conversation for days after her extremely raunchy performance at MTV's Video Music Awards.
Cyrus was seen twerking on Thicke during a duet of his hit Blurred Lines while dressed in nude latex underwear and repeatedly sticking out her tongue, which appears to have a life of its own.
Cyrus is currently drumming up publicity for her new album Bangerz, and released promotional images for the record last week.
The fiancée of Liam Hemsworth can be seen wearing PVC trousers while grabbing her crotch in one of the somewhat distasteful shots.
The new album is set for release in the US on October 8 and includes her hit single We Can't Stop and her new song Wrecking Ball.
