A British band hailed as "the new Radiohead" took out Britain's Mercury Music Prize today.
Alt-J, who released their debut album An Awesome Wave earlier this year and will be performing at the Laneway Festival in Auckland in January, beat Plan B, The Maccabees and Django Django to take out the prestigious competition.
Other nominees included Jessie Ware, Michael Kiwanuka, Sam Lee and Ben Howard.
NME.com reported the band, who often get compared to Radiohead in reviews, were favourites to win the prize.
They thanked their parents and said they hadn't yet "synthesised the information" after their win, NME.com reported.
