Melanie Griffith has slammed Hollywood for being about youth and beauty.
The 56-year-old actress has enjoyed a successful career in Tinseltown, winning a Golden Globe and being nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Working Girl.
Griffith is currently promoting independent thriller Dark Tourist, and has bemoaned the lack of credible roles for women over a certain age. The star is annoyed that worthwhile parts are only offered to females with youth and attractiveness on their side.
"It is what I never thought would happen when I was in my 20s and 30s, hearing actresses bitch about not getting any work when they turned 50. Now I understand it, it is just different. In a lot of ways, (Hollywood) is a very superficial place,'' she told FOX411.
"It is all about youth and beauty, for women anyway. You just have to keep biting and pushing your way through, doing theatre. I believe in just being really good and working on my craft which is how I started in the first place.
