Radio presenter Mike Hosking and his partner Kate Hawkesby were the victims of a burglary at the weekend.
The Herald understands Hosking's cheque book was stolen and a woman tried to use it but was caught by bank staff.
The Newstalk ZB breakfast host briefly talked about the incident with Hawkesby, who presents the morning news, and sports presenter Matt Brown yesterday.
He is expected to go into more detail on this morning's show.
Hosking introduced the pair about 6.20am: "Lovely to see you both for a brand new, exciting week. It was a lovely weekend."
Hawkesby replied: "Apart from the robbery."
A shocked Brown asked, "Were you held up at gunpoint?" to which the host answered, "No, but I'll be holding someone else up at gunpoint."
Hosking, who won Best Talk or Current Affairs Host - All Markets at the NZ Radio Awards last week, then started to tell listeners what happened.
"Yes, I can say for the first time, at the age of 45, I am the victim of crime."
Hawkesby interrupted with, "It's an awful feeling," before Hosking continued: "So the next time the police stats come out, I will be a victim.
"What happened was the most extraordinary thing. The bank rang on Saturday and they said, 'There's a woman in here ..."'
But Hosking was distracted by a problem with Brown's microphone and said, "Give us the news before we go on to the crime story."
The trio did not go back to discussing what happened, and Hosking did not return calls yesterday.
