95bFM Breakfast Show host Matt Heath is leaving bFM, 8 months after taking over from Mikey Havoc.
"I'm hanging up my microphone and walking into the sunset, "he said this morning.
The host made the announcement on his show this morning, saying Friday would be his last day.
Heath has been involved with bFM since 2003, hosting Thursday Drive along with long-time Back Of The Y collaborator Chris Stapp.
bFM has had major changes of late. Havoc left the afternoon Drive show last month, with the station reverting to a roster of different hosts each day.
Station manager Manu Taylor said he was sad, "but bFM is a place where people grow, and sometimes go."
He confirmed a new permanent host would be on air from next Monday, with that person revealed before this Friday.
The student radio station has been thought of as a breeding ground for future broadcasting talent, and the latest announcement gives the opportunity to bring some new personalities to the mic.
"My co-host Connor [Nestor] is an awesome dude my vote would be him," Heath replied when asked who he thought should replace him.
"But it's not my call."
Heath wouldn't be drawn on his reasons for leaving the show, or his future plans, but he's said in the past he missed being able to spend time in the morning with his young family.
The radio industry now seems set for a round of musical chairs, with RadioLIVE host Maggie Barry revealing days ago she wouldn't be renewing her contract. Her last day will be December 22.
Speculation is rife that former TVNZ Breakfast host Paul Henry could take Barry's vacated slot, but James Coleman is also said to be in the running.
Then there is the Radio Hauraki afternoon show that controversial host Iain Stables was set to start, before an altercation with an airport check-in assistant resulted in the network terminating his contract.
