One of the accused stars of the hit Netflix documentary Making a Murderer has to remain in jail during the appeals process, it has been announced.
Brendan Dassey, 27, is one of two men arrested for the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach. The case came to international attention last year when Netflix screened Making a Murderer, investigating the discrepancies in the case.
In August, Dassey's conviction was overturned after the judge ruled that he was coerced into confessing by the police. The State of Wisconsin launched an appeal process, but Dassey's legal team asked for their client to be given bail while the process unfolded.
It was ruled Tuesday that Dassey should be released, but today the Court of Appeals upheld a motion by the prosecution denying Dassey's release. It is not currently clear why they denied his release, but the prosecution had argued that releasing Dassey would not be in the public interest.
