The filmmakers also take viewers behind the scenes of the struggles faced by Steven and Brendan's families and the legal teams fighting for justice on their behalf.
Over the course of 10 new episodes, Making a Murder Part 2 provides an in-depth look at the high-stakes post-conviction process, exploring the emotional toll the process takes on all involved
Part 2 introduces viewers to Kathleen Zellner, Avery's hard-charging post-conviction lawyer, in her fight to prove that Avery was wrongly convicted and win his freedom.
The second season follows Kathleen - who has righted more wrongful convictions than any private attorney in America - as she tirelessly works the case and uncovers unexpected evidence about what may have happened to Teresa Halbach.
She also reveals more details about conviction, giving insight into how and why the jury convicted Steven of her murder.
In the trailer, Kathleen tells viewers: "The prosecution's case was, 'Teresa never left the property,' but the last call pings off a cellphone tower miles off the Avery property.
"There is an abundance of evidence. This could flip the whole case," she dramatically reveals.
The filmmakers also follow Brendan Dassey's postconviction lawyers, Laura Nirider and Steven Drizin with Northwestern University's Centre on Wrongful Convictions of Youth, as they fight in federal court to prove their client's confession was involuntary.
Brendan's case could be one which sees his fight go all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
In the past three years, Steven and legal team have desperately tried to get his murder conviction overturned, with his nephew, Brendan Dassey, sensationally having the conviction for his own alleged involvement with the crime overturned in 2017.
The season two trailer opens with eerie music playing in the background as childhood images of Steven Avery flash up on screen.
He says in the voiceover: "Some people they feel really bad and sad and 'everything happened to me'. Sometimes you feel like you want to cry but you can't. Kind of shocked sometimes, I didn't think all of these people would care."
Steven's new lawyer Kathleen boldly confirms in the new trailer that her mission is to achieve the same result for her client.
"I have one goal and that's to overturn the conviction of Steven Avery."
The trailer for season two ends with Kathleen asserting: "If this case is solid, if he's guilty, I'll fail."
Making A Murderer Part 2 is a Synthesis Films Production, with Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos serving as executive producers, writers and directors.
In a joint statement about the upcoming season, Laura and Moira told The Hollywood Reporter: "Steven and Brendan, their families and their legal and investigative teams have once again graciously granted us access, giving us a window into the complex web of American criminal justice.
"Building on Part 1, which documented the experience of the accused, in Part 2, we have chronicled the experience of the convicted and imprisoned, two men each serving life sentences for crimes they maintain they did not commit. We are thrilled to be able to share this new phase of the journey with viewers."
Making A Murderer 2 launches globally on Netflix on October 19.
