Broadcaster Marcus Lush has become the latest celebrity to fall victim to a Facebook faker.
The RadioLive morning show host asked his fans for help to track the imposter down. He wrote on Twitter: "I need help getting rid of a Facebook imposter, any ideas?"
The fake Lush has been posting comments on the imposter page, which is fronted by a dated photo of Lush sporting long hair and a beard, saying, "Hello, I'm Marcus Lush. I am a New Zealand Radio Presenter".
The imposter wrote: "Hello all in Facebook Land, it's me, Marcus Lush.
"Just think of me as your friendly neighbor [sic] whom has a frequent tendency to invite you over for a nice cold one when you don't really want me to speak to you at all. Cheer's [sic] have a good one."
The real Marcus Lush posted a comment on the page saying, "This person is an imposter".
NetSafe executive director Martin Cocker said more people had been seeking advice on how to deal with impersonators.
The rise in complaints mainly relate to Facebook.
"If a person is purposefully trying to convince other users of Facebook that they are another person, that could be seen as fraudulent activity," said Cocker.
