Lorde's parents get engaged at Niagara Falls

Lorde says something special happened when she visited Niagara Falls with her parents today.

The Kiwi pop star tweeted that, after nearly 30 years together, her dad Vic O'Connor proposed to her mum Sonja Yelich with a diamond ring.

BEST DAY - went to niagara falls - my dad proposed to my mum after almost 30 years together. ????????????????????????

She sent a series of emoticons expressing joy with her tweet, then followed it up with a note that anticipated fan jokes about her famous line from Royals: "I've never seen a diamond in the flesh."

Yelich is often seen on tour with Lorde, but her dad rarely travels with her.

Yelich and O'Connor have four children together, including their superstar daughter.

Lorde recently performed in the UK but had been in Toronto, Canada, for the MuchMusic Video Awards on Monday where she won international video of the year.

She is next due in Australia for a series of make-up dates in July after postponing a tour due to illness earlier this year.

The only remaining question is, will Lorde perform at the wedding?
