Lorde's mother Sonja Yelich hits back at split reports

Lorde's mother Sonja Yelich has fired up over rumours her daughter has split with her longtime boyfriend.

Lorde, 19, was yesterday reported to have split from her boyfriend of three years, James Lowe, 26.

They haven't been seen on each other's Instagram accounts for several months.

While the pair are yet to discuss the reports, Lorde's mother hit back at two Twitter users discussing the reports online.

"Glad you are having fun at my daughter's expense. And what, may I ask, is your contribution to New Zealand?" she asked.

Lowe and Lorde have been dating since the start of her success, with Lowe, a photographer, often sharing backstage snaps of the pair on social media.

Lowe took to his blog in 2014 to detail what it was like to date Lorde, and how their lives had changed since her single Royals topped the US charts for a record nine weeks.

"My life is probably a lot different now, but it feels normal on the inside," he said.

"Jared Leto said that fame doesn't change you, it changes everyone around you. While I'm not the centre of attention here (and f***, the times I have, it's never been fun), I do become aware of the people around me and their transparency. They fail to hide it."

Last week it was reported Lorde has bought her first home - a villa in Herne Bay, with a heated swimming pool, that cost $2.84 million.

It's understood Lorde is currently recording her second album, the follow-up to Pure Heroine, with producer Joel Little in Kingsland.
