Lorde's manager, Scott MacLachlan, finally gets an award for himself, after taking two major prizes at last night's Music Managers Awards in Auckland.
MacLachlan, who also manages Sol3 Mio (who had the biggest-selling album in New Zealand last year and the biggest-selling tour), won the Manager of the Year award, and, unsurprisingly, the International Achievement award, which recognises the big impression he has made in the American and European markets, as well as helping his acts reach unprecedented global recognition.
In a new category this year, Dean Lawton won Breakthrough Manager for his work with reggae greats Sons Of Zion, and the Best Independent Tour award was won by Teresa Patterson for putting together tours for Six60 in March/April 2013 and I Am Giant in Jan/Feb 2014. Self-Managed Artist of the Year was Daniel McBride for Sheep Dog & Wolf; Leigh Sawmill was named Best Small Venue, and the Powerstation Best Large Venue.
In other awards news, Apra have announced two additions to the Silver Scroll Awards this year - Best Original Music in a Feature Film and Best Original Music in a Series, to recognise the achievements of New Zealand's film and television composers. Entries open on Monday, with entry forms available at apra-amcos.co.nz. The ceremony is in Wellington on October 30.
