"The world has expanded for me in this incredible way. It's cool, and I'm very lucky that I get to surround myself with creative people who are clever and good at what they do."
While she enjoys going to America, Lorde - whose real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor - feels most comfortable in her native New Zealand as she can lead a normal life there.
She explained: "It is easier to have a normal life back home. I think everyone knows that they're going to see me around, that I'm going to be buying gum from a gas station or whatever.
"The shine rubs off when you're like: 'Oh yeah, my friend met her in the supermarket the other day.' I think people are much more chill about it. Yeah, people are good there, respectful. I love living in New Zealand."
The singer stars on the fashion bible's July music issue wearing a floral Gucci dress with her trademark locks flowing.
It's Lorde's first Vogue Australia cover, and she took to Instagram to share her excitement.
Lorde tweeted the cover on Sunday, commenting, "Your girl on the cover of a pretty underground publication known as @vogueaustralia".
She also posted another picture from the shoot, tweeting, "Feeling like an eccentric old-money 70s californian in givenchy [sic]".
Lorde's mother Sonja Yelich also showed her support, sharing the cover and ending her post by saying she was so proud of all her girls.
