Lorde skips Laneway for Grammys, offers free make-up show

Lorde has confirmed she won't be able to headline January's Auckland leg of the St Jerome's Laneway festival because of the Grammy Awards.

But she'll be offering a free concert to ticketholders two days later to make up for it.

The North Shore 17-year-old scored four Grammy nominations on Saturday: Record of the year, song of the year and pop solo performance for her No. 1 hit Royals and best pop vocal album for her debut Pure Heroine.

As a result, she'll need to be at the ceremony at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on January 26 - almost exactly the same time as she's due to headline Auckland's leg of the Laneway festival on January 27.

Laneway organisers said the "tight timeframe" meant she wouldn't be back in time to perform, and they fully supported Lorde's decision to skip the festival.

"This outstanding nomination is historic in nature and a huge achievement for Lorde. Laneway Festival is in full support of Lorde and her strong future."

Instead of Laneway, Lorde will perform a free show at Silo Park two days after the festival for ticketholders who purchase a ticket before 5pm on, January 8. Information on how to get tickets will be emailed to ticketholders.

Tickets will also be available to the general public for the show, which go on sale at 12pm on Thursday, January 9.

Other acts performing at Laneway include James Blake, CHVRCHES, Danny Brown, Run the Jewels, Earl Sweatshirt, Frightened Rabbit, Ghost Wave, Haim and Savages.

It's the second major New Zealand festival to have a line-up change after Blur pulled out of January's Big Day Out, and were replaced by Deftones, Beady Eye and The Hives.
