Lorde's song is up against Lana Del Rey for the theme song to Tim Burton's Big Eyes; John Legend for Glory from civil rights movie Selma; Patti Smith for Mercy Is from Noah and Australian star Sia's Opportunity from the Jay-Z produced version of the musical Annie.

Looking at recent history, it seems an Oscar original song nomination is a slight possibility given the crossover between the Globes and the Academy Awards.

The last time the Globes and Oscars agreed on best original song was in 2012 with Adele's Bond theme Skyfall which was co-written and produced by Brit Paul Epworth, the producer on Yellow Flicker Beat.
The Globes certainly have a thing for pop stars on Hunger Games soundtracks.
Both Coldplay and Taylor Swift with The Civil Wars have been nominated from past Games movies. Though neither of those came away with the Globe - or an Oscar nomination.
The Golden Globes will be presented in Los Angeles on on January 11.
