Lorde defends ticket prices for Auckland show

Lorde has taken to Twitter to defend the cost of her upcoming Auckland concert, saying it was out of her hands.

The Kiwi pop star was due to headline the Laneway Festival on January 27, but because of a clash with the Grammy awards - for which she has four nominations - she is instead headlining her own all ages concert two days later at the same venue.

Tickets went on sale yesterday for the price of $69 with a $2 booking fee.

Lorde sent out a series of tweets defending the cost, saying "I didn't set the price".

But she offered a deal to her under 18 fans, which kicks off midday today from Auckland music store Real Groovy.

however, tomorrow from 12pm, under 18s can get 10 dollars off the ticket price if they buy from real groovy! best i could do. C U THER PUNKS

Lorde last played in New Zealand at internet radio station iHeartRadio's Auckland launch at Vector Arena in September, which was free to 5000 fans.

At her first ever tour back in May, which included two intimate shows in Auckland and Wellington, tickets cost $25.

Lorde was yesterday included on the line-up for Coachella's music festival, held over two weekends in April.

And she also tweeted that her upcoming American tour had sold out.
