Lorde brings the luxe to Auckland Museum's upcoming Volume exhibition

In January 2014 a 17-year-old from Devonport accepted one of the biggest awards in music.

We're talking, of course, about Lorde, aka Ella Yelich-O'Connor, who won the "Best Pop Solo Performance 2013" Grammy for her all-conquering song Royals.

That night she also gave a beguiling performance in front of an estimated television audience of 30 million worldwide viewers, cementing her place in popular music and announcing that indeed, music's new Queen Bee had arrived.

Soon New Zealand's music lovers will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with this significant moment in our musical history and actually see her golden gramophone in the flesh.

But that's not all...

Along with her prized Grammy, Lorde has also lent the Auckland Museum's upcoming Volume: Making Music in Aotearoa exhibition the outfit she wore during her Grammy performance, which famously includes her Takapuna Grammar school shoes.

The interactive exhibition, which opens on Friday October 28, will include more than 200 objects that have played a significant part in the history of our popular music.

This includes a selection of the crazy suits favoured by the legendary Split Enz, Chris Knox's iconic Teac 4-track recording machine and the Fender Stratocaster guitar belonging to Hello Sailor's Harry Lyon.

This decade-by-decade journey through New Zealand's popular music history will be free to attend and is an absolute must for music fans.
